Essendon utility Dean Solomon has undergone arthroscopic knee surgery to remove loose cartilage from below a knee cap.
The 26-year-old had recurring problems with his troublesome right knee in 2005 and was put in cotton wool for the final four weeks of the home-and-away season. He also had arthroscopic surgery to during the 2005 pre-season to repair torn cartilage.
According to the Bombers, Solomon will miss the next four weeks as a result of the surgery but will be available to play in the club’s final two pre-season matches before the round one match against the Sydney Swans.
Essendon’s general manager of football operations Dom Cato said it was important for Solomon to have the surgery now rather than closer to the home-and-away season.
“Both players (ruckman Jason Laycock also had arthroscopic surgery on his right ankle last week) will get some match practice in before the season starts so that is the positive to come out of it. We opted to get both problems fixed now rather than try and manage them during the course season,” Cato told
